History of Ceylon tea " Not often is it that men have the heart, when their one great industry is withered, to rear up in a few years another as rich to take its place, and the tea fields of Ceylon are as true a monument to courage as is the lion at Waterloo" -- Conan Doyle. By 1880, the hitherto thriving coffee industry in Ceylon had been ravaged to virtual non-existence by the blight. Nearly quarter of million acres of coffee plants were uprooted and the tea (Camellia Thea) plant was accorded its pride of place instead. Thus began the great Ceylon tea industry.This tea saga of Ceylon begins with tea seeds and young tea plants of the Assam jat imported from the Botanical Gardens in Calcutta, being experimentally planted in the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens near Kandy in 1839. In addition, a handful of more enterprising coffee planters too had cleared the odd half acre and planted it with tea. Being chiefly concerned with lucrative coffee, planters in general had no time for tea and those experimental plots too were forgotten in time for some thirty years. However, tea did grow. Moreover, it was noted that tea grew well in the hills of Ceylon. However, the first commercially planted tea happened in 1867 at Loolecondera estate by a Scotsman named James Taylor when coffee industry was being severely plagued by the blight. SIMPLE BITTER CHOCOLATE POTS WITH WHITE CHOCOLATE SAUCE 4 persons Easy pudding that can be made well in advance. A little fruit is also nice on top before the sauce is spooned over. Preparation time:- 15 minutes. Cooking time:- 30 minutes. 1 pint double cream 1 tsp coffee granules pinch salt 80g Aldi Moser bitter chocolate, chopped (70%) 4 medium egg yolks 120g granulated sugar For the sauce: 100g white chocolate 100mls double cream Grated bitter chocolate Pre heat the oven to 325F, Gas 3. Bring the cream, coffee and salt to the boil, then add the chopped chocolate, remove from the heat and stir until dissolved. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar just to bring together. Pour on the chocolate milk and stir well. Pour into 4 or 6 (depending on the size) small china pots are perfect, but ramequins will suffice. Egg cups can be used if you have kids or you are serving a couple of puds. Place the pots carefully into a baking tray and half fill with boiling water, cover with foil and place in the oven cook for about 30 minutes, or until just set and wobbly. Do not over cook. When cooked, remove from the tray and cool, then chill well. To serve, melt the white chocolate over a pan of gently simmering water, then add the cream, stir until smooth and silky. This is the second part (made itself of 2 parts subpart a and b) on reverse osmosis. The fist part in the series covers theory and the system components that are actually shown in part 2. They are shown but not discussed in detail. The system isnt very professional in appearance mainly because it started out as a simple concept of building a CPVC dedicated piping system into the house as it was being built to serve each vanity in the house, the kitchen sink and refrigerator. The concept was to be driven by a conventional 3-stage under-sink RO system with a much larger storage tank. The only additional original modification was to add a large whole-house carbon filter for additional finishing. The system worked but at lower than satisfactory volumes therefor a low-volume/high-pressure diaphragm pump was added. This improved production but ice cubes were still smaller and tea jugs and coffee pots took longer to fill than we liked so a permeate pump was added. Finally, after a number of years the under-sink 3-stage unit failed and was replaced with a simple 75 GPD membrane and housing.

spare annoy potter's caster and alkali anhydrate in a mailbox

a very simple potter's wheel using a "temporary" spare tire, and a salt kiln using a commercial size mailbox lined with fiberfrax. The temporary tire doesn't weigh as much as the earlier wheel I made (see my other car tire potter's wheel videos) with a regular car tire. It loses momentum faster due to it's lighter weight, but it's easier to handle and move around. Good for throwing smaller pots (coffee cup size). I didn't have to use any glue to hold the fiberfrax in place in the mailbox as it "pressure-fits" nicely. The firing went well and I got some nice results. As I had hoped, the fiberfrax is quite resistant to the salt vapors, so only the ware gets glazed and not the kiln lining. Small wads of fiberfrax were used under the pots and they brushed off cleanly and easily after the firing.

This is the second part (made itself of 2 parts subpart a and b) on reverse osmosis. The fist part in the series covers theory and the system components that are actually shown in part 2. They are shown but not discussed in detail. The system isnt very professional in appearance mainly because it started out as a simple concept of building a CPVC dedicated piping system into the house as it was being built to serve each vanity in the house, the kitchen sink and refrigerator. The concept was to be driven by a conventional 3-stage under-sink RO system with a much larger storage tank. The only additional original modification was to add a large whole-house carbon filter for additional finishing. The system worked but at lower than satisfactory volumes therefor a low-volume/high-pressure diaphragm pump was added. This improved production but ice cubes were still smaller and tea jugs and coffee pots took longer to fill than we liked so a permeate pump was added. Finally, after a number of years the under-sink 3-stage unit failed and was replaced with a simple 75 GPD membrane and housing.
